Phonics

Today’s sound to recap is /ea/. This is a digraph which means two letters working together to make one sound. The E and the A making the /ea/ sound is usually seen at the beginning or in the middle of words.
Visit phonics play https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk you will find the game ‘Picnic on Pluto’ in the ‘free phonics play’ section. Click on ‘Phase 5’ which is down the side of the screen on a pink tab and then scroll down to the game ‘Picnic on Pluto’ you then need to select ‘Phase 5’ again and it will ask you to choose your sound. Today choose ‘ea’. We have played this at school so the children will be familiar with it.

Next Segment and write these words together…. eat   each   leap   reach  beach  speak.
Finally write a silly sentence using these words. For example, On the beach we eat one seat each! Focus on applying capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. You could even use an exclamation mark!

English
Watch the Video below….. can you write up my instructions? Perhaps you could send a picture of them to me when you have finished? Remember we are focusing on those important time connective – First, Next, After that and Finally.

You will see in ‘After that’ section I brush my dog. Can you add some advice to your reader – For example ‘After that brush your dog. Be careful when you brush around your dog’s ears as it might hurt.’  or ‘After that brush your dog. Make sure you are gentle with the brush so you don’t hurt your dog.’

Tomorrow I am going to ask you to record your own instructions. Can you Innovate the ones in the video above. For example… How to feed a cat     or    How to walk a dog. Don’t worry if you don’t have any pets. You can choose anything for example, How to make a drink   or  How to build a Lego tower. The main focus is using the time connectives and remember to be bossy!!!!

Maths No Problem –Multiplication

Please do not draw or write in the textbooks.

In Focus task – page 39 textbook. Look at the image, how many cans altogether? How did you count them?     Prompt by saying that they are already in equal groups meaning the same amount in each tray. How does this help?

Together see if you can think of other ways to count them, For example searching for 4 trays of 5, 4 groups of 5 and 4 fives. Verbalise as you are doing this to reinforce that each time you are looking for ‘groups of 5’  – Link this to counting in 5’s.

Follow a similar pattern using the crisps and bananas as examples. Encourage them to talk through their thinking – and work through ideas together even if as an adult you know it is incorrect it is important to work through both wrong and right ideas to help reason why certain ways do and do not work.

Lets Learn and Guided practice – work through these questions together. Again you will see these focus on use of vocabulary and verbalising thought processes. There is an activity with plates and objects to try as well.

Only move onto the workbook if your child is confident with the concept – if not continue with the activity and guided practise. We all learn at different rates so please do not worry.

Workbook – complete pages  39 – 41. ‘Worksheet 2  Adding Equal Groups’. At school the children would try to work through these questions independently with an adult to guide them through what the question is asking for, reading when needed and modelling where to write the answers. If you are able to support this at home that would be great, the aim here is for children to apply the skills they have just practised.

Topic based task – Art

Lots of you have probably seen the rainbows that people are putting up in their windows as a way of cheering strangers up and making one another smile. I thought it would be great if you could have a go at making you own rainbow at home or a poster which could go in your window and be shared on our school website. This could be a ‘Thank you’ poster for all of the amazing NHS workers or a ‘Be Happy’ poster for people walking past. It is completely up to you, anything that you think would help put a smile on someones face!!!

If you would like to share your creation on the school website I will make a blog post next week, so please email me a picture either on or before Wednesday 1st April.

I look forward to seeing all of your amazing artwork!!
