Writing

Watch this short film entitled ‘Road’s End’.

https://www.literacyshed.com/roads-end.html

Rewrite the action in the first person from the point of view of the mysterious man in the red scarf. You will need to think about the following: Who is the mysterious man? Whose car is he standing next to at the beginning of the film? How long has he been waiting next to the crashed car? Where is he going? Where has he come from? What is he thinking about while the driver is talking to him in the car? Why is he wearing goggles? Does the mysterious man cause the car crash or is he a victim like the driver? Why does he raise his thumb at the end of the film?

Include as much detail in your writing as possible. When you are finished, rewatch the film and ask yourself, ‘Does my version of the narrative explain what actually happens in the film? Enjoy yourselves!

Bloodheart

The Twentieth Century saw the first human heart transplants take place, diseased hearts being replaced with healthy hearts.

Read this article about the world’s first synthetic heart.

https://www.nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs/uk-man-gets-artificial-plastic-heart/

The synthetic heart mentioned in the article is only a temporary replacement for a real human heart. However, many think it is only a matter of time before the first robotic heart is invented that can permanently replace a diseased human heart.

As Head of Development at RoboHeart Inc. your task this week is to design the world’s first robotic heart. You will need to draw a labelled diagram of the robotic heart and write detailed notes on how it will work and what a recipient will need to do to look after their roboheart to ensure it functions properly.
