Phonics

Today’s sound to recap is /ay/. This is a digraph which means two letters working together to make one sound. The A and the Y making the /ay/ sound is usually seen at the end of words.

Visit phonics play    https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk       you will find the game ‘Buried Treasure’ in the ‘free phonics play’ section. Click on ‘Phase 5’ which is down the side of the screen on a pink tab and then scroll down to the game ‘Buried Treasure’ you then need to select ‘Phase 5’ again and it will ask you to choose your sound. Today choose ‘ay’.  We have played this at school so the children will be familiar with it.

Next Segment and write these words together….  May    hay     play     clay     delay    Sunday

Finally write a silly sentence using these words,  for example The clay came out to play on Sunday. Focus on applying capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

English

In the packs that were sent home you will find a sheet with ‘First’ ‘Next’ ‘After that’ and ‘Finally’ written on it. Use this to write a set of instructions for the ‘Spooky pencil holders’ that we made in class last week. As the activity originally came from Mister Maker you can find a video here which might help.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/makes/mister-maker-one-minute-make-spooky-pencil-holder

If you were not in school when we made these have a go at watching the video and trying to write the instructions in your own words using our time connectives ‘First’ ‘Next’ ‘After that’ and ‘Finally’. Alternatively you could write a set of instructions for something else you have made recently.

There is a box at the top of the page to draw a picture of the finished product – they looked great!!

Maths

Number bonds to 10 are a crucial part of Maths in year 1. We have been practising them throughout the year as it is really important that children are able to retell these number bond facts quickly as well as use them to support other aspects of Maths such as addition and subtraction questions.

Today can you make some number bond flash cards…. start with  0 + 10 = 10        1 + 9 = 10     2 + 8 = 10

Keep hold of these as you will need them again!!
