Amazing Athletics

This half term in Year 2 we are moving on to athletics in our PE lessons. Last week, we practised different ways of running such as high knees and heel flicks. Lots of the children were familiar with these running skills from their football coaching outside of school. Today, we moved on to jumping. We practised different techniques, such as moving our arms in different ways to help us jump even higher. We put our jumping skills to the test by doing a bouncing relay race! The children were brilliant at cheering their team mates on. We made sure to cool down our bodies with stretches and deep breathing.

Every week we build on our ‘positive PE attitudes’ – congratulating the opposite team when they win, cheering on our team mates, and shaking hands at the end of a game. I am so proud of how mature the children have become since the beginning of Year 2. The children understand that PE lessons are much more fun when everyone is positive! Well done, Year 2!
