Arts Week in Year 6!

Bees, Beetles and Butterflies has been the theme for Year 6 for Southill Arts Week!

We started the project by looking at different observational drawings and discussing what we notice about them. The class used some brilliants words such as: perspective, intricate, realistic and detailed. We then created our own observational drawings using black ink pen inspired by some photographs of different insects.

Next up, we created our own detailed drawings of bees, beetles or butterflies, which needed to include intricate, small and repeated patterns to create an effect. These drawings were inspired by the artist Rosalind Monks who uses repeated patterns in her drawings of animals.

We then moved onto using watercolour paints on Wednesday! We started the lesson by exploring artwork created by Lucy Arnold. She is an artist who was inspired by nature. We created our own beetles, butterflies and bees inspired by Lucy Arnold’s paitings.

Finally, on Thursday with Mr Mason, we had a go at creating our own Pop Art pieces. We looked at Andy Warhol’s work and used bright colours to recreate our own.

Well done Year 6 for your resilience and creativity this week – I have been blown away by your artwork. Well done!
