Cracking Summer Reads

Hooray! Summer is here and it’s time to soak up the sunshine and immerse yourself in lots of great summer reading. There’s a whole lot of great books out there and we’ve got a wealth of ideas to keep your brains busy over the long break.

Weymouth Library is running the Summer Reading Challenge in a different way this year – it’s definitely worth checking it out and joining The Silly Squad. They are offering an Order and Collect service so it might be worth getting in touch and ordering some books.

Books For Topics is an excellent website with loads of cracking good ideas. You can listen to lots of brand new titles for free through their Storytime Online pages. There’s also a fun reading bingo challenge as well as ideas and recommendations for all the best new summer reads.

Waterstones shops are open again and they have some perfect picks for your summer reads.

Oxford Owl offer some useful tips for parents on how to avoid the summer slump and keep reading fresh throughout the holidays. It’s worth a look.

Storytime Summer Holiday Videos – our friends over at Storytime reading volunteers have made 30+ of their stories available to watch over the summer break.  You can access their portal by HERE with the password love2read.

Fancy starring in our Bookflix TV News Flashes over the holiday?  Just send us either your Silly Summer Selfies – a picture of you chilling with your favourite summer read or if you are feeling adventurous and would like to get digi with it then why not record a video message of your book review. Make it funny and inspirational and you could be in with a chance of winning a prize in September! Remember to film in landscape with the camera on its side so it fits on the tv screen.
