Fractions, Whitby and Stormbreak!

This week we began our unit on fractions.  We have been looking at equal and unequal parts as well as using mathematical language like part, whole, divide, share, equal, unequal.  The children are really getting to grips with it.  Hopefully they’ll be sharing equal parts of their pizza and chocolate bars with you!
We have also continued with our topic on coastlines and watched a very interesting video today about the Coastal town of Whitby and how it has changed from 100 years ago.  The children found it so fascinating watching the tradition we watched it twice!
We also celebrated our differences by taking part in the storm break “rockstars”. Showing how we can perform in different ways but still be part of a band.  Isobel Hill was our 2%er as she knows how to help children who progress at their own pace and knows that every one is different and that everybody matters.

Have a good rest of your week and a lovely weekend.  Stay safe and have fun!
The year 2 team.

Isabella is loving learning about fractions, she drew them all out for us today. Daddy taught her about 8ths.
