Heart Rates are Racing in Year 6

Heart Rates are Racing in Year 6!

This afternoon, the children were conducting an experiment to see just what happens to our heart rates when participating in numerous tasks. Some of the activities were physical (dancing and star jumps) whilst others were designed to be rather relaxing (such as a walk surrounded by wildlife and yoga).

Immediately, we noticed that our heart rates accelerated when doing physical activity and decelerated when doing activities that were allowed us to bask in peace and tranquillity.

Tomorrow, we will be unpicking the science behind this in order to find out why our heart needs to beat faster during physical activities and why it can beat slower when feeling relaxed.
