Marvellous maths and wonderful writing!

What wonderful mathematicians we have in our class! This week we read the story ‘How Many Legs’ which opened the door for so much mathematical discussion and problem solving. It was also great fun!

Here we are exploring combinations of legs from different creatures. We also had a go at recording our findings as simple additions. How many legs would there be with a penguin and an elephant?

How about a chicken and a goose? Or a cow and a sheep?

How many legs for a spider and a hippo? What about a butterfly and a sheep?

We had great fun with our problem solving.

As well as being marvellous mathematicians, we have also made amazing progress as writers.

Every morning, when we arrive at school, there is a writing challenge to start the day. Sometimes there is a picture to start us off. This was our picture today –  a magical garden. Have a look at the ideas in our writing.

Can you see where we have used our phonic knowledge to sound out words such as garden, magic, beautiful.

Look out for pretty, flowers, golden..

Well done Reception – you are such confident writers now and can write amazing sentences. Fantastic!
