Michael Rosen visit

This morning the children in KS2 had one of their most memorable writing lessons ever from the one and only Michael Rosen. In a packed out Pavilion we were entertained by the bestselling writer and broadcaster as he recited some of our favourite poems such as I was Born in the Stone Age, No Breathing in Class, Rhythm of Life and Big Book of Bad Things. He taught us some great techniques for good writing such as exaggeration (or hyperbole) and repetition. He encouraged the children to go back to school and have a go at writing short stories in only a few words or to have a go at writing a poem just like he does. He told the children that he got all his best material by studying his parents hard and writing about his own experiences of childhood – so look out mums and dads because I’m sure the children will have been inspired by the experience this morning. Who knows what stories they will tell??!
