Our Journey Stories

This week have been busy writing our very own Journey stories.

We have had lots of fun this half term learning our own class journey story ‘Little Charlie’. Over the past 5 weeks we have been picking apart the story and looking at different aspects of it in more detail, focusing specifically on the ‘opening’ the ‘problem’ and the ‘resolution’. We have then spent lots of time looking at how we can make changes to these sections, whilst still keeping the overall journey story structure the same. This is called Innovating. For example, who could we change our main character too? Does it have to be Little Charlie? As a class we then learnt a new story called ‘Silly Billy’!!!

To finish off this fantastic unit of writing all of us had a go at writing our very own journey story – using Little Charlie as the inspiration. Some of our ideas included ‘Princess Pearl’ ‘Angry Matt’ and ‘Pirate Peter’.

I have been overwhelmed at the fantastic writing that has been produced in Year 1 this week! Everybody has been really resilient and resourceful – using their story maps and the working wall to support their writing and keep them on task. Stories have been sent home for you to share together – I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Thankyou again for your continued support at home. I hope that you are able to see that impact that your daily reading at home has has on your child’s sounding out in their writing and their spelling of tricky words.

Well done Year 1 – I am really proud of you all!
