Rain rain go away!

We haven’t let the rain dampen our spirits this week in Year 1!

In fact, in science we have been talking about the changes in weather and linking this to seasonal changes across the year. We have been talking about what we would expect the weather to be like in Autumn, what clothes we are starting to wear and how this is different from summer. This week in science we have also been looking at ‘fair test’ and deciding which one thing we should change in our ‘skittles’ experiment. Initially lots of us wanted to change more than one thing in the experiment – such as the colour of skittles, the amount, the size of the plates etc. After lots of discussion and modelling we decided to change the temperature of the water, we called this one thing that we are changing the ‘variable’.

In English we have been learning our innovated text – ‘Greedy Jaws’. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between this story and our original story ‘Little Charlie’. Over the next week we will be changing it once more to invent our very own journey stories! We are going to choose our own characters and settings, keeping the ‘journey’ theme the same.

Number bonds have been the focus of Maths this week. We have been looking at how one whole number is made up of two parts and learning different ways which we could show our understanding of this. There has been a big focus on number bonds to 10, as this is a key objective for Year 1. We have been using number bond diagrams, tens frames and even made our own number bond paper chains to decorate the classroom.

Another busy week, well done Year 1!
