Swish Swish!

Swish Swish!

This half term, we have been developing our basketball skills and our understanding of the game. In today’s session, the children began by focusing on dribbling with the ball. Children know to use their fingertips and push the ball, ensure the ball is bouncing continuously and ensure that they are looking at where they are travelling whilst dribbling.

Our first exercise required the children to dribble out, grab a cone and bring it back to their teammate. The children had to continue dribbling even when bending down to collect the cone, avoiding double-dribbling. We then developed the children’s passing accuracy. We focused on the chest, bounce and overhead pass and the children had to listen carefully to the instruction in order to produce the correct pass and be in the right place at the right time on the court.

We then looked at moving into space when not in possession of the ball and making decisions in just 3 seconds. Children were split into small teams and were required to pass and move up the mini-courts. They scored a point if they were able to successfully pass the ball to a teammate stood in the hoop. It was brilliant seeing the children playing fairly, staying resilient and working reciprocally.

Well done, Year 4!
