The Rock – Paper – Scissors Southill Championships

The Rock, Paper, Scissors Stormbreak Session

We had an extended Stormbreak this afternoon as we discussed the importance of resilience. We are aware that resilience involves being determined to succeed despite any obstacles that may be in our way. We may feel frustrated or disappointed if things do not go our way, however it’s how we react to these eventualities that’s important. Therefore, to help children develop their resilience and teamwork, we held a ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors Competition’ on the top playground. House teams needed to work cohesively in order to defeat their opponent.

The mission was simple. Children needed to jump from hoop-to-hoop until they met their opponent. They would then play rock, paper, scissors to determine a winner. The winner could continue jumping and the loser had to rejoin the back of their line. We then played some individual games of rock paper scissors. If children lost, they became the supporter of the winner. We finished with two finalists who were cheered on by their teammates and eventually we crowned our ultimate champion!

I was incredibly proud of all of the children this afternoon for a multitude of reasons. The children demonstrated sportsmanship, a ‘can-do attitude’ and didn’t give up despite the scorching sun high above.

It has been a really enjoyable first few days and the children have glided into Year 4 with confidence and positivity.
