Under Pressure with Pneumatics!

Following on from our amazing investigating of pneumatics on Monday, we have put our learning to the test this week and designed and created some prototype machines using pneumatic systems!

We began by working reciprocally to design and create a creature with an opening and closing mouth.  Can you see the pneumatic systems we used to create this movement?  Some of us used balloons and others used air pressure with syringes.  We think our moving creatures are brilliant!

After this, we moved our designs on to create a moving mechanism which was serving a purpose.  Today, we thought of a mechanism which can lift things.  I am blown away with the resourceful and reciprocal planning and thinking of the class today!  Have a look at the amazing pneumatic mechanisms, we have created strong structures with levers, hinges and a pneumatic system which can lift a load!

It is always amazing to see how well the children create and develop these projects and as part of our Aspirations focus, what a pleasure it was to hear children saying, “I love this task because I’m going to be an engineer when I’m older!”
