Year 2 trip – Portland Castle

What a day! We have had so much fun today at Portland Castle, learning about Tudors and King Henry VIII. The children enjoyed the coach ride and were very well behaved. When we arrived at Portland Castle we split into two groups – one group toured the castle and the other group enjoyed some activities in the kitchen. The children learnt about how food was produced, stored and cooked, as well as creating some yummy Tudor recipes! They could explore the props and pretend to be a Tudor cook. The children also enjoyed sketching the different items of food and cooking equipment.
After a quick snack break, the groups swapped.

As we toured the castle, we tried on outfits of Tudor soldiers and gunners. The children enjoyed looking at themselves in the mirror! There was also a small gun (cannon) that the children pretended to clean and light. We looked at the guns on the deck outside too. We had a great view of the beach and sea.

we learnt lots of facts today about the Tudors – ask your child if they can tell you some!

Huge thanks to the parent volunteers that came with us today. It wouldn’t have been possible without you!
