A (virtual) Polar Expedition!

To kick-start our new Geography project ‘Frozen Kingdoms’, Year 6 took part in a virtual polar expedition as they explored the Arctic and Antarctic.

They used Google Earth and Google Maps to gather information about the Arctic or Antarctic. They made notes as they travelled through each area based on their observations of human and physical features. We came across mountains, research centres, icebergs, ice shelves, and even penguins! Some children shared how they were surprised to see lots of areas of grassland in the Antarctic as they expected all of it to be snowy! We then spent some time discussing our observations and explored the similarities and differences between the two polar regions.

We’ve also had a very productive few days learning our new text map ‘The Caravan’ and the important vocabulary in the story, as well as setting ourselves new goals for the year in our PSHE lessons.

Well done for a brilliant first few days back Year 6!
