Galileo! Galileo!

Continuing our scientific thinking this week, we explored the force of gravity today and investigated whether heavier, larger or smaller, lighter objects fell the quickest.  We used our resourcefulness and reciprocity to conduct well-planned and resourced experiments, testing and checking our results using iPads.  We thought we had the answer until Mrs Hill introduced another force, air resistance!  It turns out that gravity pulls all objects at the same rate and air resitance actually affects the speed of an object’s fall!  Amazingly, Galileo Galilei first proposed that all free falling objects fall with the same acceleration nearly 400 years ago and we saw the theory in action demonstrated by Brian Cox (Human Universe series, BBC) using NASA’s vacuum chamber.  Amazing scientific learning Year 5, well done!
