Introducing Blood Heart!

This morning, Year 6 were introduced to their new topic ‘Blood Heart’ with a very exciting activity – a heart dissection!

We learnt all about the circulatory system by exploring how the blood enters our heart (through the vena cava) and how it travels through the four chambers (the right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and left ventricle). Whilst dissecting the heart, we were able to find these four chambers and see how they are all connected to allow the blood to flow through them. We also saw how thick the heart wall is and how this is important in order for the heart to pump the blood around the body.

I was so impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and listening skills throughout the morning. They all worked so hard and listened carefully during the activity, and have learnt a lot about the heart already!

Well done, Year 6!
