Is it a Fair Trade?!

Today we started our new English discussion unit in Year 5 entitled Should We Buy Local Or Import Our Food? Added to our lesson on Fair Trade and learning the amount a banana picker in Ghana actually earns, we are really buzzing with indignity at the unfairness of it all!  Revolutions are afoot to ensure people across the world are paid fairly for their work and time so we can have fresh produce in our supermarkets!

Have a look at our text map and read the information on banana pickers and their wages below and join the discussion – Should We Buy Local Or Import Our Food?

I disagree on what the workers get because the people who do the less get more money and the people who do the most get less money.

  5. I agree it is not fair, the picker picks bananas in hot conditions and they get 1p per banana. The supermarket don’t really do as much as the picker and the get 44p. This is why I think fair trade is not fair.🍌🍌

I disagree as it’s not fair for the people that spend the whole day picking bananas to earn the least, they do WAY more than what the lorry driver and supermarket do!Thats why you should buy fair trade foods as much as possible!! Fair trade makes sure that everyone earns their fair amount of money depending on the job that they did!

  7. I think it is unfair and pickers spend so much time picking bananas.People who work in supermarkets get so much more money than pickers.IT IS SO UNFAIR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I think it is really unfair because why should the supermarket get 44 p and the workers who did all the really hard work only get one P and that the ship should really get 10P
So should the super market and the lorry then the worker and the picker should get 35 p
