Our First Day In Year 2

Wow, what a busy first day in Year 2! This morning we drew pictures of something we did in the summer holidays and enjoyed sharing these with each other. We listened to some of our new novel, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl, before doing our first piece of Year 2 writing – our wish for Year 2. We were very reflective and wrote sentences such as ‘I want to get better at spelling’, ‘I would like to play with different friends’ and ‘I want to practise my times tables at home.’ Well done Year 2!

Next, we explored our maths resources such as the tens frames, bead strings, 100 squares and the dienes. We investigated the different ways in which we could use these in maths. We also played some maths games on the board with Mrs Smith, and beat our high score each time!

After lunch, we enjoyed some music with Mr Bell. We started learning Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. We will practise it each week together.

Finally, we had our first Jigsaw (PSHE) lesson. We talked about our worries and what we could do to feel better. The children had some fantastic ideas and wrote them down neatly.

We think everyone will sleep well tonight! Well done everybody, what a fabulous first day in Year 2.
