READ ALL ABOUT IT…

Over the past few weeks, the children have been learning about newspaper reports. We have learnt about the key tools required in order to write an effective news story:

-Big, bold title

-Strapline

-Introduction (5W’s)

-Formal language

-Past tense

-Impressive vocabulary

-Direct and reported speech

-Pictures (and captions)

-Columns

After writing their Hot Tasks yesterday, the children had the opportunity to publish their newspaper reports today. They had to think carefully about how they were going to edit their writing in order to fit their work inside the columns provided. Great newspaper journalists must use every inch of space in order to report on their news story and the children really took this on board when writing up their work.

A great lesson and, I must say, some of the newspapers look fantastic!

Well done, Year 4.
