Sketching Landscapes

Sketching Landscapes

In Year four as part of our Misty Mountain Winding River topic, we have been looking at comparing landscape paintings by some famous artists including: Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and Paul Gauguin. We looked at how they use line, colour and pattern to create different effects.

Over the last two weeks, we have been learning about atmospheric perspective and how we can create this in our own art work. We learnt that objects in the foreground have strong colours whilst objects in the background have faded colours. Objects in the background have very faded or blue colours. We practiced creating these effects in our own art work using different media.

Next week, the children will be creating their very own piece of artwork with this new understanding of how to create an authentic piece of landscape art.
