Southill vs Bincombe Valley

It was upper Key Stage Two’s turn to grace the football pitch after school today as we took on Bincombe Valley. MY WORD, WHAT A MATCH!

Southill looked a little nervous in the early stages and struggled to settle into the game which led to Bincombe gaining an early 2-0 lead after just 10 minutes. However, after dusting themselves down and remaining resilient, Southill then started to play some attractive football. This led to our very first goal of the game. A through ball from Albert was dispatched confidently by Mason making the score 2-1 going into half time.

After an inspirational half-time team talk by yours truly, Southill were ready to give everything they had in the second half. We kept possession extremely well in the first 10 minutes and managed to carve out several chances. After a cross from the right, Albert was once again involved as he calmly controlled the ball and curled it into the top corner making it 2-2. Confidence was high and a save by the opposing goalkeeper fell to the feet of Samuel on the edge of the box who smashed it above the keeper’s head meaning that Southill took the lead for the first time in the match!

Bincombe rallied and were able to equalize soon after, catching Southill off-guard. Knowing that they were controlling possession, Southill remained calm and knew it was only a matter of time before they created more chances. A ball down the line from Evan led to Albert once again scoring making it 4-3. In the final 5 minutes, a through ball from Kaleb landed at Mason’s feet who danced passed two and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Southill then kept it tight for the final few minutes and came out victorious with the final score…

Southill 5 – 3 Bincombe

It took real resilience to come back from 2-0 down and I am so proud of the boys today. They played extremely well as a team and every player worked incredibly hard. A huge thank you to Bincombe for being such a great opponent, thank you to all of the parents and carers who came and cheered the team on and thank you to the team who really showed what representing your school is all about…tenacity, teamwork and determination!

Well SPS, what a great match! Considering the boys don’t train together as an actual team they did so well! Oliver loved playing in goal too.
    Thanks for arranging!

  4. A really enjoyable game to watch, loved watching the never give up attitude that both teams showed. Everyone should be extremely proud of how they played and in the manner that they represented themselves and each other, some really nice teamwork on display!!!
