Taotie Masks.

Over the past few weeks, Year 5 have been super resilient with their crafting skills! After studying Taotie Masks from the ancient Chinese Shang Dynasty and learning about their purpose, stle and features, we then designed some of our own masks! Have a look at our careful drawing and symmetrical designs.

We then transferred those designs to clay to create a mold of our masks. When it was ready, we used plaster of Paris to pour on the mold, thereby casting our own Taotie Mask, just as the people of the ancient Shang Dynasty did!

Today was the most exciting part where we were able to break away the molds and see our cast mask designs! What do you think?! Scary? Symmetrical?

Well done Year 5, this was a fabulous project to share with you all and celebrate your final pieces!
