Year 5/6: The Southill Primary ROCK BAND after-school club

Introducing the Southill Primary Rock Band

Mr Bell led our Unit 3 Assembly today, having the pleasure of launching our brand new after-school club which begins after half-term, every Tuesday, open to Year 5 and 6 children.  We are super excited to welcome this club to Southill, Mr Bell is a musician who not only teaches music but also works on producing and recording in his very own studio!  During his assembly he played us some music by The Ramones, we listened to the beat of the drums and the rhythm of the guitar which Mr Bell then demonstrated LIVE in Year 5.. it was a very exciting moment for all!

Being in our ‘Rock Band’ club will provide a unique opportunity to learn how to play the drums, electric guitar and base and as with all bands there will be an element of vocal work too.  The club will run for 12 weeks and will include a live concert to the whole school as well as actually recording a track, which Mr Bell explained takes place by recording each layer at a time as they are learnt (very interesting!).

As with all after-school clubs we have limited spaces available and with our Rock Band we can take a maximum of 10 children.  However, we will run this club again in the new school year to give as many children as possible the chance to take part, should they wish.

Being in our band is also a commitment, children will need to attend all sessions, be willing to partake in all elements including singing (but nobody will be forced to sing on their own should they not wish to) and also performing in a live concert at the end of the 12 week course.  Plenty of support will be included as part of being a member of our band, but please only apply if this is of interest to you.  A Ping message has been sent to all parents/carers of children within Year 5/6, please reply accordingly.  There will be no charge for this club and it also includes use of brand new instruments, how exciting!
