You Buddha Believe It!

You Buddha Believe It!

Today we began our Religious Education lessons. This half term, we are learning all about Buddhism. We’ve already learnt that:

-Buddhism originated in India over 2,500 years ago

-People who follow this religion are called Buddhists

-The God they worship is called Buddha

We then pondered the question is it possible to always be happy and we had some fascinating responses. We agreed that happiness can be a choice as it’s important to focus on the positives, however sometimes we can go through difficult times which make it challenging.

After that, we then began learning all about the life of Buddha and how he became ‘enlightened’. We learnt that enlightened meant understanding how to be happy and free from suffering. Children listened to the story of Buddha then pieced together the tale in the chronological order. This task wasn’t easy as the story is a complex one. Nevertheless, the children listened intently and were able to work together in order to place the events in the correct order.

Next week, the children will try to write a precis of the story to see how much they have understood the emergence of Buddhism.

Well done, Year 4. You have enlightened me with your hard work, reciprocity and determination.
