Animal Designs

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about ‘success criteria’ in DT.

One of the activities that we have been doing this week involved drawing an imaginary animal using a given success criteria. We had to make sure that our new creature had;

  • at least two animal features – for example you might choose to include the trunk of an elephant or the neck of a giraffe into your new animal design, or, the body of a snake and the ears of a bunny!
  • an animal pattern – such as scales like a fish, or print like a tiger or leopard
  • a face
  • a body
  • be colourful – make sure the pattern that you choose is bold and vibrant

Lots of us found this tricky to begin with as we had to work within a given set of rules, this meant that we had to take time to think about how our final creature would look and how we were going to include all of the criteria above. Lots of us started our drawings and then wanted to start again to make changes. We learnt that this is OK, it is good to make mistakes they help our brains grow! And it is important to be reflective.

Working to a success criteria is a difficult skills, you have all done a great job.

You can see our new creatures below… enjoy!
