Superstar Stargazing!

What an amazing evening we had in Year 5 last night!  The intrepid space explorers returned to school donned in coats, hats, blankets and head torches for an entertaining evening of biscuits, hot chocolate, marshmallows, telescope viewing and some amazing stargazing at the skies above our school field!

First we had a look at some photos of galaxies and nebulas to inspire and amaze us.  Then we reminded ourselves about the phases of the moon through the use of biscuits – “Full moon, waxing gibbous moon, half moon, new moon!” After that we warmed ourselves up with some delicious hot chocolate before heading out to the school field.

We were fortunate enough to look through one telescope at Mars and use another telescope with laptop technology to view the edges of the Andromeda galaxy.  When it became too cloudy, our Starwalk app on the iPads helped us to see what is up in the skies above us.

Topped up with delicious marshmallows toasted on the firepit, we had such an amazing time!

We are all so impressed with how well the children listened and how reciprocal they all were, what fabulous superstars you are Year 5, well done and thank you!

Have a look at our photos to see for yourself what a brilliant time we all had!

Jake had an amazing time and hasn’t stopped talking about. Thank you all for giving him a fun experience. He now wants Santa to bring him a telescope for Christmas 😁
