The Feel Great 8!

Here at Southill, we are extremely passionate about the power of positivity and try our very best to adopt a positive attitude throughout the day and in our lives too.  To help us do this (which let’s be honest, isn’t always easy) we have learnt many helpful strategies as part of our ‘Outstandingly Happy’ school project last year – being a 2%er is perhaps one of our favourites (did you know that 98% of our population have a negative outlook on life?  We choose to be that other 2%).  You can read more about this project and our strategies over on the Outstandingly Happy page within our website, including videos that we made which better explain.

Since receiving our Outstandingly Happy school status, we have taken things further and (thanks to Mr Smith) have created our own project to help keep the power of positivity pulsing through our classrooms.  The Feel Great 8 helps us to remember and practise 8 useful techniques which can be carried out in any order.  We are really proud of it’s success – so much so that we have made our own posters and are recruiting ‘Feel Great Mates’ to help us when things get tough and to help spread this positive message.  Also, as of this Friday will be introducing ‘The Feel Great 8 Award’ within our Celebration Assembly every week.

We hope that you may find The Feel Great 8 useful too, perhaps your child can let you know what works for them or even teach those at home…

The Feel Great 8

1 – Set your dial to happy!  Tuning in to a more positive frequency can make a real difference to your day!

2 – Believe in yourself!  Two different thoughts: ‘I can’ and ‘I can’t’.  Which do you choose to believe?

3 – Three letters – TRY.  If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

4 – Be grateful 4 what you have.  Remember friends, family, food and fun.

5 – The high five effect.  How do you make others feel? Do they want to high five you, or wave goodbye?

6 – Six rhymes with ‘tricks’.  Don’t let a mood-hoover trick you into feeling bad.

7 – Seven words: ‘DO IT BETTER THAN YOU HAVE TO!

8 – The 4, 7, 8 breathing technique.  Keep calm and practise this clever exercise (breathe in for 4 seconds, hold it for 7, breathe out for 8 seconds). This really helps to restore calm and focus.
