Computing
If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow
– John Dewey
Why teach Computing?
At Southill Primary, we believe that computing is an essential part of preparing our pupils for life in a rapidly changing, digital world. Our Computing curriculum is designed to give children the knowledge, skills and confidence to use technology safely, creatively and responsibly. We want our children to understand how computers and digital systems work, how to think computationally, and how to create and express themselves through technology.
Our curriculum has been carefully shaped to meet the needs of our pupils. Through engaging, practical and purposeful learning experiences—such as video production, animation, coding, data handling, and web design—children develop real-world skills that support future education and employment opportunities. We make the most of our local environment, enabling pupils to explore digital citizenship in the context of their community and the wider world.
We teach children to be thoughtful, respectful and safe digital citizens. They learn how to make good decisions online, use technology to support their wellbeing, and understand the opportunities and risks of a connected world. Technology evolves rapidly, and we are committed to ensuring all pupils develop the adaptability and resilience they need to thrive.
Computing at Southill Primary helps children become creators, problem-solvers and critical thinkers. By learning how technology works—and how it shapes our daily lives—our pupils are better prepared for their digital futures.
