Friday 1 May 2026 Running RIOT on Fitness Friday! Fitness Friday was in full swing this morning as we welcomed children of all ages onto the playground to complete as many laps of the course as possible. The course included a slip down the slide, a challenging leap across the tyres and a climb up the A-frame, adding fun obstacles along the way. It was fantastic to see the children so determined to complete as many laps as they could within the allotted 15 minutes. Some of the Year 6 pupils even ran alongside their Reception buddies, which was lovely to see and a great example of teamwork and encouragement. With motivational music playing in the background, apologies to the neighbours, it was no surprise that the children were eager to run and reluctant to stop when time was called and the school day began.A special thank you to Mr. Frampton for capturing the action throughout a very busy day for #TheMightySPS, and to the Bronze Ambassadors for ensuring that everyone knew how to navigate the course safely.

Friday 1 May 2026 Ted Harrison Art The children have been really enjoying this unit of work. Yesterday, we made the most of the lovely weather and took our painting outside. Each of the children created a painting inspired by the work of Ted Harrison, choosing contrasting warm and cool colours and mimicking the bold designs he was famous for. We will finish this topic next week and display all their lovely paintings in a 'Gallery' after school on Friday. We hope you can all make it.

Friday 1 May 2026 Mini Professors make crystals! This week year 3 had a visit from Lee at Mini Professors. The children were learning about materials can change. The children first looked at different types of crystals then using a guide sheet and pictures, tried to match the crystals to the correct name. After this the children were given some Epsom salt, warm water and some blue food colouring in small containers to take home. Their mission? To shake the contents and then put half on a plate in the fridge and the other half on a plate at room temperature to see which conditions work best for the crystals to grow! Each child has made a prediction and we will find out next week the results from home!

Thursday 30 April 2026 Dear Me... In our Stormbreak sessions this week, we've been focusing on self-care - in simple terms, taking good care of ourselves. As children grow older, it can become all too easy for them to be self-critical, often seeing their “glass half empty” rather than half full. With that in mind, today's session took on a thoughtful and personal approach.Armed with clipboards and pens, the children were invited to write a letter to themselves, highlighting the things they are proud of — their strengths, qualities and the characteristics that make them who they are. To help them reflect, they found quiet spaces outside, enjoying the calm of the fresh air, the glorious sunshine and the sounds of nature as they wrote. At first, some children found this challenge difficult. It's not always easy to recognise and celebrate our own strengths. However, with a little time and encouragement, their ideas began to flow, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they filled t

Tuesday 28 April 2026 Air Hockey Madness Takes Over the Hall Air Hockey Madness Takes Over the HallWhat a way to kick off our very first Summer Sports Club of the term! The hall was transformed into something truly spectacular. Tables and benches lined the space, two goals stood ready at either end, and suddenly… we had a giant air hockey arena! The excitement was buzzing before we had even started. To warm up, children worked with a partner to pass the puck, getting a feel for the speed and sharpening their reactions. Then came the big moment. Teams were formed. The Greens. The Blues. The Yellows. The competition was on!With a 6-a-side format and ‘winner stays on' in play, things quickly became fast, frantic, and fiercely competitive. The puck zipped across the hall at lightning speed as players dived, defended, and celebrated every goal. Cheers echoed, teamwork shone, and determination was everywhere you looked. And most importantly… it was SUPER FUN!Time seemed to fly faster than the puck itself as we carefully co

Monday 27 April 2026 A House That Moves and a Story That Stays Last week in Book Talk, we explored a wonderfully unusual story, The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson. From the very first mention of the title, the children were intrigued and eager to discover more. The story follows Marinka, a young girl who lives with her grandmother on the edge of the world. Her grandmother has an important and mysterious role, guiding the dead through the gate into the afterlife. However, their home is far from ordinary. Without warning, it can rise up on its chicken legs and move on to a new, often desolate location. Because of this constant moving, Marinka finds herself isolated and without friends, longing for a more normal life among the living. After reading the prologue together, the children put their comprehension skills to the test by answering questions and discussing their first impressions of the story. They then moved on to a creative task, sketching the house and labelling it with descriptions taken directly from the text. This was a fantast

Friday 24 April 2026 Y2 20th April We have had a really busy week in Y2. Our maths has been focusing on fractions and finding a whole number when we are only given one part. This has taken a lot of determination and resilience as it is not an easy concept to pick up first time round. The children had an extra day of practicing their new fractions skills today, using counters while drawing how many equal groups they needed. The penny is definitely beginning to drop for lots of them now! We are really proud of the excellent attitude of this class. They are such a supportive cohort of children and really take pleasure in each other's successes.

Wednesday 22 April 2026 Poetry, Passion and a Perfect Performance This morning, Year 5 stepped into the salty sea air and made their way not to Southill Primary, but back to Weymouth Pavilion for their third performance. After two Shakespeare productions, it was time for poetry, and excitement was high as we watched these seasoned performers take to the stage once more.On World Book Day, we were lucky to welcome published poet and rapper Alex Wharton, who shared that his favourite poet is Benjamin Zephaniah. Inspired by this, we chose one of Zephaniah's poems and from the very first reading, we knew it was the perfect fit. What followed was truly unforgettable. The children performed with incredible expression, passion and unity. Their energy filled the room and their confidence shone through every line. It may not have been a competition, but if any school deserved a mic drop moment, it would be The Mighty SPS.I could not be prouder of what they achieved.A huge thank you to Mr Frampton, who cycled to the pavilion to capture photos of the performance.
