Welcome to Southill Primary School

Hello and welcome to Southill Primary School.

On behalf of our children, staff and governors, I am delighted to welcome you to our school. Southill is a happy, thriving one-form entry primary school, proudly serving our local community in Weymouth.

Our aim is simple: to provide every child with an excellent education and a happy, memorable primary school experience. We want our children to feel safe, valued and excited to come to school each day.

We value individuality and celebrate difference. Everyone is welcome at Southill and we work hard to ensure that every child receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive. We have high expectations for all our pupils and want them to leave us as confident, successful and caring young people who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Reading is at the heart of life at Southill. We are committed to ensuring that children learn to read confidently and successfully from the very beginning. We invest in high-quality children’s literature and promote reading for pleasure across the school. Our classrooms and libraries are filled with engaging books, and there is a genuine enthusiasm for reading among our children and staff.

We are incredibly proud of our bespoke Bright Futures curriculum. It is ambitious, carefully sequenced and designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. It celebrates Weymouth and our local area while also opening children’s eyes to the wider world, helping them to understand their own community and appreciate the experiences and cultures of others.

Alongside strong academic foundations, our curriculum develops teamwork, kindness, empathy and resilience. We encourage children to discover their interests and talents, develop ambitious dreams for their futures and understand the importance of looking after their physical and mental wellbeing.

Learning at Southill extends far beyond the classroom. Educational visits, visitors, performances, sporting opportunities and residential experiences bring our curriculum to life. We want every child to experience new places, take on challenges and create happy memories that will stay with them long after they leave us.

During their time at Southill, children enjoy a wide range of experiences, from exploring our local coastline and visiting historic landmarks to performing, taking part in outdoor adventures and travelling further afield. These opportunities build confidence, independence and strength of character while helping children to make meaningful connections with their learning.

It is a real privilege to lead Southill Primary. I am incredibly proud of our children, our dedicated staff and the families who make our school such a welcoming and special community.

Our website will give you a flavour of life at Southill, but the best way to understand our school is to visit us. We have a weekly tour on a Friday at 11am- open to any prospective parent. I would be delighted to welcome you, show you around and introduce you to our wonderful school.

I look forward to meeting you.
