Thursday 21 May 2026 Wacky Wheels Wednesday – A Wheely Wonderful Celebration! This week, instead of Fitness Friday, we had Wacky Wheels Wednesday to celebrate Walk to School Week, and WOW were we blown away! The effort that the children (and adults!) have gone to to decorate their wheels has been quite remarkable. We had Christmas themes, natural materials, countless balloons, and all sorts of wonderful things used to decorate for this special edition of Scoot and Toot.

Wednesday 20 May 2026 Ping Pong Pandemonium: Summer Sports Club Serves Up Fun! This week at Summer Sports Club, the weather couldn't quite decide what it was doing (classic British behaviour), so we made the sensible choice and headed indoors for some fast-paced table tennis fun!We kicked things off with a deceptively simple but strangely addictive challenge using just the ping pong ball. Working in pairs, children stood opposite each other across a table and had to bounce the ball back and forth, increasing the number of successful bounces by exactly one each time. Easy at first… until it definitely wasn't. One particularly impressive pair managed to reach a brilliant total of 8 consecutive bounces - a true display of focus, patience and possibly Jedi-level coordination.Next up was our table tennis relay, where we introduced the paddle into the mix. Children had to strike the ball, catch it in their other hand, and then pass the paddle on to their partner, who had to repeat the challenge. It required sharp concentration, steady hands, and some excelle

Friday 15 May 2026 A Record-Breaking Bounce Bonanza! It had been a little while since our last Bounce Bonanza (mainly because of the very long process of pumping up all the balls and preparing the equipment!), but it was absolutely worth the wait. We were thrilled to welcome a record number of children to Fitness Friday, all eager to take on the challenge of dribbling their chosen ball as many times as possible around our marked playground course.Children of all ages enthusiastically joined in, developing their hand-eye coordination, ball skills, and spatial awareness, while also enjoying plenty of movement and exercise before the start of the school day. The playground was full of determination, concentration, and lots of bouncing fun!A huge thank you to our Bronze Ambassadors for kindly helping to pack away all the equipment afterwards, and to Mr. Frampton for capturing some brilliant photos of the children's wonderfully focused concentration faces during the event.

Thursday 7 May 2026 Championes, Championes...Ole Ole Ole! This afternoon, it was the boys' turn to head up to St George's for a 7-a-side football competition. The children were VERY excited to step out onto the pitch in glorious sunshine and spend the afternoon playing football in an attempt to win a cup that Southill had never won before…We began the competition with five group-stage matches. Here's how we got on…Game 1 – St George's FC 0-4 SouthillGoals: Archie x1, Finn x1, Arlo x2A slow start, but once Southill found their rhythm, the children began to play some tidy football and never looked back.Game 2 – Southill 3-0 St John'sGoals: Bryce x1, Archie x1, Jossy x1After five minutes, it seemed as if it was going to be “one of those games” where the team did everything but score. Arlo hit the crossbar, while Jossy and Stanley both dragged shots narrowly wide of the post. However, once the first goal went in, we relaxed and played some fantastic football. A solid start to the group

Tuesday 5 May 2026 Summer Sports Club – Benchball Bonanza! This week, we headed outside in the scorching sunshine for a firm favourite… benchball! The aim of the game is to eliminate the opposing team by hitting them directly with a soft ball. Unlike dodgeball, once you are out you move to a bench behind the opposing team. From there, if a teammate successfully throws the ball to you and you catch it, you can rejoin the game and get straight back into the action.

Friday 1 May 2026 Running RIOT on Fitness Friday! Fitness Friday was in full swing this morning as we welcomed children of all ages onto the playground to complete as many laps of the course as possible. The course included a slip down the slide, a challenging leap across the tyres and a climb up the A-frame, adding fun obstacles along the way. It was fantastic to see the children so determined to complete as many laps as they could within the allotted 15 minutes. Some of the Year 6 pupils even ran alongside their Reception buddies, which was lovely to see and a great example of teamwork and encouragement. With motivational music playing in the background, apologies to the neighbours, it was no surprise that the children were eager to run and reluctant to stop when time was called and the school day began.A special thank you to Mr. Frampton for capturing the action throughout a very busy day for #TheMightySPS, and to the Bronze Ambassadors for ensuring that everyone knew how to navigate the course safely.

Thursday 26 March 2026 Southill Makes a Splash at the Swimming Gala This afternoon, 16 pupils from Years 5 and 6 headed to Weymouth Swimming Pool to take part in a packed programme of individual and team events. From breaststroke to front crawl, backstroke to the ever-chaotic frog float relay, the children were certainly kept on their toes… or should that be their flippers. In my 10 years at Southill, this is the first time we have entered this event, so expectations were cautious. With 13 schools competing, we knew it would be a challenge. That said, I could not be prouder of every single child who took part. Their determination, teamwork and enthusiasm were outstanding from start to finish.Special mentions:Eliza – 2nd place in Backstroke

Spirits were high as they rotated between trampolining and badminton, eager to learn new skills and take on fresh challenges. The trampolining session was led by fantastic young sports leaders from Years 9 and 10, who impressed everyone with their confidence and knowledge. They carefully demonstrated and taught a range of skills including straight jumps and how to stop safely, half turns and full turns, as well as tuck, pike and straddle jumps. Some children even progressed onto more advanced moves such as seat drops with a half twist, swivel hips, front drops and back drops. The enthusiasm in the room was infectious and at one point Sophie Murray could not resist stepping onto the tramp

Friday 20 March 2026 Running Riot on Red Nose Day! Running Riot brought energy, laughter and a whole lot of speedy feet to the playground. With crazy hair bouncing in every direction and determination written across every face, children set out to complete as many laps as possible before the school day had even properly begun. This was no ordinary run. Our brilliant bronze Ambassadors had designed a course packed with fun, weaving in sections of the trim trail to keep everyone on their toes. Runners climbed, swung, slid and scrambled their way around, turning each lap into an adventure. The climbing frame tested bravery, the monkey bars challenged strength and the slides added a burst of excitement mid-run.With the sun shining and smiles everywhere, the atmosphere was full of positivity. Laughter echoed across the playground as children encouraged each other, counted laps and pushed themselves just that little bit further. All of this happened before 8.45, proving just how much can be achieved with a little enthusiasm and a lot of teamw

Friday 13 March 2026 Southill Shine in a Day of Tight Contests It was the girls' turn to represent Southill School at the NASH Cup football competition today. Despite a deluge of rain overnight, the conditions turned out to be excellent for football – although I'm reliably informed it was rather cold! The girls arrived ready to give it their all and showed fantastic determination throughout a busy day of football. The team played 12 matches against strong opposition from across the Weymouth and Portland area, and many of the games were incredibly tight affairs. Southill came extremely close on several occasions to turning these narrow contests into victories. However, tournament football moves quickly and often rewards teams who can find the net early. The girls' resilience and teamwork were on full display, particularly in their victories over St John's (6–0) and Chickerell (3–1), as well as several hard-fought draws where Southill's defence stood firm.Match ResultsG1 Southill 0–2 Bincombe – Loss &a
