A Cracking Day of Cricket!

Today, children from Year 6 travelled to Redlands to take part in the Year 6 Girls' Cricket Competition.

Having first learned about cricket during the Autumn Term of Year 5, it was fantastic to see the girls putting their skills into practice. The morning session focused on skills, drills and learning the fundamentals of the game. With expert coaching from Weymouth Cricket Club, the children developed their batting, bowling and fielding skills. It was wonderful to see them quickly shake off the cobwebs, grow in confidence and begin to familiarise themselves with the game once again.

After lunch, the competition got underway, with the children facing two teams in a series of matches to determine the overall winners. The girls batted in pairs: Avril and Eliza, Georgia and Eleanor, Ella and Bella, and Skyla and Mia.

Each team started with 100 runs. Teams lost 5 runs whenever a batter was dismissed and gained runs through boundaries, sixes and runs scored between the wickets.

Here are the results:

Southill 113112 St Augustine's

Wyke Regis 12392 Southill

Mrs. Murray was blown away by the determination, resilience and teamwork shown by all of the girls throughout the day. They demonstrated brilliant batting, phenomenal fielding and excellent bowling, making Southill proud in every match they played.

Congratulations to Wyke Regis for winning the trophy.

It makes us incredibly proud that, despite the large number of schools invited to these competitions and events, Southill continues to be a regular participant, providing children with as many opportunities as possible to excel, develop new skills and enjoy sport.

A huge thank you to Mr. Frampton for capturing some fantastic action shots, to parents for transporting the children to and from the event, and to everyone who came along to support and cheer on the team.

We would also like to thank Weymouth Cricket Club for their excellent coaching, the All Saints pupils for officiating the matches, and Mrs. Murray for her leadership, encouragement and support throughout the day.

Well done, girls - you represented Southill brilliantly and should be very proud of your efforts!
