Bat, Bowl and Bedlam! Summer Sports Club
This afternoon, the sun was shining, the field was empty and there was only one thing to do... play rounders! Of course, this was not going to be ordinary rounders. Summer Sports Club likes to do things a little differently.
To begin, we got ourselves familiar with the bases using a blindfold challenge (yes, really... don’t ask!). Once everyone had found their feet, it was time for a game of three-ball rounders.
The challenge? Fielders had to wait until the batter had faced all three balls before racing to return every ball to the hula hoop in the middle of the pitch before the batter reached fourth base. Chaos? A little. Fun? Absolutely.
Just when everyone thought they had mastered the game, we changed the equipment. One tennis ball and the bat stayed, but the other two balls were swapped for a frisbee, which seemed to have a mind of its own, and a football to keep everyone on their toes.
It was brilliant to see the children thinking tactically, communicating well and working together in their teams as they battled to be crowned Rounders Champions.
After the scores had been carefully counted and verified (thank you, Max!), we discovered that Freddie’s team had claimed victory by just one and a half rounders. A very close finish to another fantastic session.
We will see you all next week for our final Sports Club before half term. But what could the challenge be? Extreme Tiddlywinks? Human Jenga? Competitive Wheelbarrow Obstacle Racing? Only time will tell!
