Our first week in Year 6!
Year 6 have truly settled into their role of being the oldest in the school! We've had an action packed first week, as they hit the ground running on Monday with a full learning timetable. As well as that, we've done a lot of work on routines, expectations and what it means to be a member of Year 6. All of the children have done an excellent job of getting back into the swing of things.
This week, we started our writing topic on Leila and the Blue Fox - a brilliant story about a young girl who is travelling to visit her estranged mother which runs in parallel to a story about a rare blue fox on a long migration. Will their stories cross over? We'll be finding out soon. This is also our class novel, and everyone seems to be enjoying it so far.
We've been smashing our place value in maths, investigating living things and their habitats in science, learning about music from the Chinese New Year celebrations and understanding IP addresses in computing. Phew!
Today, for the first time, Year 6 got to meet their buddies. The buddy system is always something that Year 6 pupils hold dear. It's very good for them too, encouraging responsibility and embracing their caring and nurturing nature.
Well done, year 6! It's looking to be a great year.
