Sculpting, Exploring and Discovering Autumn
Year 1 have had a really creative and busy week, and we’ve been learning all about Autumn in lots of different ways.
In Art, our topic is sculpture, so we started the week by using playdough to mould different shapes. The children challenged themselves to make long sausages, hamburgers, the letters of their names, full words – and even some very impressive playdough cats (of course!) They showed great creativity and had lots of fun getting stuck in.
In our next Art lesson, we learned about imprints. The children used all kinds of interesting and magical objects to press into playdough and create beautiful patterns and textures.
We also started our new Science topic this week: the seasons and how they change! Today's focus was Autumn. We already know the four seasons from singing the Seasons Song in class, so we were ready to get outside and explore! Working in pairs, the children went on a hunt around the school grounds to find signs of Autumn. They noticed bare trees, piles of fallen leaves, helicopter seeds, and lots more. Everyone came back into the classroom with a page full of observations – I was so proud of how focused and enthusiastic they were.
It’s been a great week of learning and creativity. Well done, Year 1! Have a fab weekend!
