Self Worth and The Stormbreak Rave

This week in Year 5 our learning focus has been on self worth - understanding how we see ourselves and appreciating that each one of us has value, strengths and things to offer. We watched a short animation called “Self Worth Animation - Violet” on YouTube. In the video, the character Violet struggles with self doubt, thinking she’s not enough, but over time we see how her view of herself changes as she realises she is worthy and special. The message is clear...self worth isn’t about being perfect, it’s about accepting who we are, including our strengths and flaws. It’s about recognising that we are enough just as we are and that we contribute positively to the world. Sometimes comparing ourselves to others or focusing on our faults can make us forget how amazing we already are. Changing negative self talk like “I can’t” or “I’m not good enough” to kinder, more supportive thoughts helps build confidence and resilience.

We talked in class about times we feel unsure of ourselves and what we might say to a friend feeling the same. We practiced positive affirmations and reminded each other of things we are proud of, both small and big.

To bring energy, joy and movement into our day we held a Stormbreak activity called “The Stormbreak Rave.” The room was lit up with glowsticks, torches and lots of hi viz jackets. The effect was electric. The children danced like nobody was watching, full of expression and movement. It was a truly awesome spectacle. You could see the joy on their faces and feel the energy in the air. Before, during and after the rave the energy stayed high. There were smiles, laughter and clear signs of how alive the children felt as they moved.

After the rave we sat together and reflected on how our bodies and minds felt. We talked about physical and mental health and how exercise and movement are great ways to look after both. When we move, we boost our mood, reduce stress, gain energy and strengthen our bodies. This supports how we feel about ourselves too.

I’m so proud of how Year 5 have approached the topic of self worth with openness, kindness and bravery. The Stormbreak Rave was nothing short of spectacular and what an amazing way to move, energise and celebrate being ourselves.

Let’s carry forward the messages we learned: speak kindly to ourselves, remember we matter and use movement and exercise to care for both body and mind.

Well done, Year 5!
