We the Curious Museum – BEST TRIP EVERRR!
On Friday, Year 5 were up bright and early for an adventure to Bristol and our first school trip of the year! Our destination? The incredible We the Curious Museum – an interactive, hands-on science museum that was the perfect way to finish our learning on Earth and Space.
We started the day with an amazing science workshop all about the planets and moons in our solar system. Mark, our workshop leader, was amazed by how much the children already knew. They confidently named all the planets in order, identified the phases of the moon, explained day and night, and even described why we have different seasons. Then came the rocket challenge! The children designed and built their own rockets, testing out how the angle and trajectory affected how close they could get to the target. Huge thanks to Mark for such an exciting and inspiring start to the day!
Next, it was time to explore the museum’s ground floor. From robots that created recipes based on facial expressions to giant hamster wheels that powered water, there was science fun everywhere! The green screen zone and slow-motion dancing were huge hits, and it was brilliant to see everyone experimenting, laughing and learning together.
After such a busy morning, lunch was very welcome. Once the rumbling tummies were full, the children were thrilled to discover we still had a whole floor left to explore! Upstairs, they stepped into the illusion room, walked through tornadoes, made stop-motion animations and created enormous bubbles that floated right over their heads.
Then came the highlight of the day – the Planetarium! Wearing 3D glasses, the children were launched into space for an unforgettable journey through our solar system. They were amazed to see the planets up close and learned all about different moons, including one called Charon that orbits the dwarf planet Pluto. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience.
Before heading home, there was just enough time for a quick visit to the shop to spend a few pennies on souvenirs.
It was an absolutely fantastic day packed with fun, discovery and learning. The children came away full of excitement, stories and new knowledge about the wonders of space. What a trip to remember!
