Windsurfing and Chesil Beach!

For their first trip as Year 6, our brilliant class were treated to an amazing experience: a windsurfing lesson at Portland Marina. The excellent and highly experienced staff at the OTC Watersports Centre provided an unforgettable activity, as all the pupils got to try out this adventurous sport for the first time in a setting which is literally fit for Olympians! Some of our class even got to meet some Olympic athletes in training. This experience was a great way for all the pupils to try something new, develop their confidence and go out of their comfort zones in a fun and safe environment. The class worked together so well - they cheered each other on and gave each other words of encouragement and guidance.

As the OTC worked with 16 pupils at a time, the class split into two groups. While one group was windsurfing, the other group went for a walk along the causeway to the Chesil Wildlife centre. This tied in perfectly with our recent science topic 'living things in their habitats', as the pupils could see the inspiring wildlife photography and fascinating displays in the centre. We then embarked on some fieldwork filling out a living things classification sheet as we spotted various local fauna and flora. The pupils had to decide if it was invertebrate or vertebrate, then the subgroup, and note its behaviour. Or if it was a plant, could it be categorised into flowering, fern, conifer or mosses/liverworts.

The whole class' behaviour was excellent all the way - they did a great job of having fun and were a nice group to be with while listening well and representing the school perfectly.

Thank you so much to Neryssa and Helen for coming along to help for the whole day!

Well done, Year 6.
