Personal, Social & Health Education

Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

Why teach Personal, Social & Health Education?

At Southill Primary, PSHE education is central to our commitment to developing confident, resilient and compassionate individuals who are prepared for life in modern Britain. We believe that high-quality PSHE empowers pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to understand themselves, build healthy relationships and make informed, responsible choices.

Through a carefully planned and inclusive curriculum, pupils are supported to develop emotional literacy, self-awareness and a strong sense of personal identity, enabling them to thrive both in and beyond school. Our PSHE curriculum reflects the diverse experiences of our pupils and promotes respect, equality and understanding of others.

We encourage our children to take part in a range of practical roles and activities that promote active citizenship: School Parliament Representative,  Reading Champions, school fundraising and engagement in school and local events. Children have opportunities to meet and work with members of the community, such as: health workers, firefighters, police officers, librarians, sports coaches, artists, authors and representatives from the local church. We are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all pupils at Southill and provide ELSA sessions to support this.

PSHE provides children with opportunities to explore real-life situations in a safe and supportive environment, helping them to recognise risk, seek help when needed and develop strategies to manage challenges with confidence. We aim to foster a culture where pupils feel valued, listened to and equipped to contribute positively to their school, local community and wider world.

By embedding PSHE across school life and aligning it with safeguarding, wellbeing and personal development priorities, we ensure that pupils leave Southill Primary with the foundations needed to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives. Our vision is for every child to develop the resilience, empathy and moral understanding required to navigate change, embrace opportunity and become active, responsible citizens.
