Fractions fun and Ted Harrison
We have had a really busy week in Y2. Our maths has been focusing on fractions and finding a whole number when we are only given one part. This has taken a lot of determination and resilience as it is not an easy concept to pick up first time round. The children had an extra day of practicing their new fractions skills today, using counters while drawing how many equal groups they needed. The penny is definitely beginning to drop for lots of them now! We are really proud of the excellent attitude of this class. They are such a supportive cohort of children and really take pleasure in each other's successes.
In art, we have started looking at the work of Canadian artist, Ted Harrison. He used contrasting colours in his landscape paintings. Today, we all had a go at recreating one of his works. we learnt about warm and cool colours and where they sit on the colour wheel.
All in all, a very busy week for us!
