Last Week's Highlights
A Special Well Done to Year 6
What an action-packed week we have had!
Before I share this week's celebrations, I want to take a moment to express how incredibly proud we are of our Year 6 children. This week has been SATs week, and they have approached it with maturity, resilience, and a fantastic attitude. They've shown determination, supported one another, and demonstrated everything we've been working towards throughout their time at Southill. Well done, Year 6 – you've made us all very proud!
We have had many highlights this week across the school. With Sports Week fast approaching, Years 4 and 5 came together on the top field to practise some of the exciting events they may choose to represent their teams in on Sports Day. After a demonstration of each activity, the children were divided into eight mixed teams. The competitive spirit and sportsmanship on display was fantastic!
Year 4 have proudly completed their fantastic chariots! After carefully painting their designs and adding all the finer details, the children put their electrical skills into practice and brought their creations to life. These look absolutely amazing – well done, Year 4!
A few weeks ago, our talented Year 5 children took to the stage at the Weymouth Pavilion, where they delivered a confident and captivating performance of "People Need People" by Benjamin Zephaniah. They have now been asked to perform AGAIN at the Dorset Education Conference at the end of the year. We are very proud of them-what a wonderful representation of our school!
In year 3 this week, children have been creating their own non-fiction booklet about tea, linked to the book Cloud Tea Monkeys by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham. The children have been researching facts about tea, its history, how many true types there are and who picks it. The quality of research and writing has been excellent!
Our Stormbreak Champions
This week, our Stormbreak focus has been on self-worth – recognising our own value and celebrating what makes each of us unique and special. This is an important reminder for us all to appreciate our individual strengths and contributions to our school community. Well done to our Stormbreakers of the week!

Celebrating Our Mathematicians of the Week
I'm delighted to celebrate this week's mathematicians who have shown outstanding mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills! These children have demonstrated excellent perseverance when tackling tricky challenges, shown curiosity in their learning, and applied their mathematical knowledge with confidence and accuracy.
Whether it's been mastering fractions in Year 1, exploring number patterns, solving complex problems, or showing resilience when faced with challenging concepts, our mathematicians have truly embodied our school motto of "doing everything a bit better than you have to."
Well done to all our mathematicians this week – you are wonderful role models for mathematical thinking across the school. Keep up the fantastic work!
Looking Ahead: Walk to School Week (18-22 May)
Meet at Southill Shops at 8:30am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and join us for a healthy walk to school!

Wacky Wheels Wednesday
Decorate your bikes, scooters or skateboards to be as creative, colourful and wacky as possible and use them to come to school. Best creations will be judged by the Mayor and awarded prizes! Certificate for everyone that takes part!
Please note: There will be no Fitness Friday this week!
I'm continually inspired by the energy and progress I see in our children every day – whether it's the excitement of exploring science, the determination at sports practice, or the joy of creating something new in the classroom.
Thank you for your continued support.
Have an amazing weekend!
Matt
