A Pebble Full of Friendship
This half term we have started our lovely new book, Lubna and Pebble, and we are already completely hooked!
The story is about a little girl called Lubna who is a refugee escaping from war with her dad. So far, we have learned that Lubna creates a very special friend called Pebble. She draws a face onto a pebble, talks to it, and takes care of it just like her dad takes care of her. The children have loved learning about the friendship between Lubna and Pebble and talking about why Pebble is so important to her.
To help bring the story to life, all of the children had their own pebble to decorate. They loved being creative and making their pebbles unique before carefully drawing little faces onto them. The different ideas and personalities they created were amazing!
We have been doing lots of writing linked to the story. The children wrote fantastic descriptions about what their pebbles looked like and even wrote thank you notes to their pebbles for always being there for them.
As we read further on, we met a new character, a little boy who looked rather sad. The children made brilliant observations about him and used the word “because” to explain their ideas and thoughts. We then acted as Lubna and thought of questions we would ask the little boy to learn more about him. The children came up with some really thoughtful ideas and showed so much empathy.
…And that was only this week! We already have so many exciting ideas and pieces of writing, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the half term brings for us and our writing journey with Lubna and Pebble!
