Reception's Final Full Week – Ready for Year 1!

What a fantastic final full week we have had in Reception! It has been wonderful to look back at just how much the children have grown in confidence, independence and ability over the year. This week has been full of exciting activities that have celebrated all of the amazing skills the children have developed as they prepare for their next big adventure in Year 1.

In maths, we have been practising writing our numbers neatly inside squares, helping us to develop the presentation and accuracy needed for Year 1. The children showed fantastic concentration and determination, taking great pride in making sure their numbers were carefully formed.

Our fine motor skills have continued to flourish as we have spent time improving our cutting skills. From carefully following lines to cutting out shapes with increasing precision, the children have demonstrated just how much their hand strength and control have improved since September.

Reading has remained a big focus this week, with the children enjoying sharing books together, using their phonics knowledge to decode unfamiliar words and developing their confidence and fluency. It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm for stories and the pride they take in reading independently.

The children have also been working hard on their writing, using their phonics, spelling knowledge and sentence skills to write independently. They have been remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, creating wonderful sentences that show just how ready they are for the expectations of Year 1.

Our imaginative play has been just as busy! The dolls' house has inspired some fantastic storytelling, with the children creating their own characters, adventures and exciting endings. It has been wonderful to listen to their conversations as they developed their vocabulary, communication skills and creativity through play.

As we come to the end of our final full week in Reception, we are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved. They have worked so hard, supported one another, shown kindness and resilience, and embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. Watching their confidence blossom throughout the year has been a real privilege.

We have thoroughly enjoyed making special memories together during our last few weeks in Reception and are so excited to see the children take their next steps into Year 1. We know they are more than ready for the adventure ahead, and we cannot wait to see all the wonderful things they will achieve next.

Well done, Reception—you have been amazing!
