Dear Buddy,

In Year 5, excitement has been at an all-time high as the children discovered the names of their Reception buddies for next year.
To introduce themselves, the children have been planning, drafting and writing thoughtful letters to their new buddies. In these letters, they shared a little about themselves, explained what makes Southill such a special place and offered reassurance that they will be there to help and support them when they walk through the school gates for the very first time in September.
The care, thought and attention that the children have poured into their letters has been truly heartwarming. Many even chose to include a small gift as a gesture of friendship and welcome. From pound coins for a first Ice Cream Friday and friendship bracelets to Pokémon cards, drawings and photographs, the children have loved finding ways to make their buddies feel excited, valued and welcomed.
This wonderful tradition perfectly reflects the kindness, compassion and sense of community that makes Southill such a special school. We know our new Reception children will treasure these letters and look forward to meeting their buddies in September.
