Finding Fun and Features: Year 1 Explores the Park

This term, Year 1 have been budding geographers, exploring our local park to learn all about the world right on our doorstep. Our focus was on spotting human and physical features, using simple fieldwork techniques, and discovering how local places support the community.

So, what did we have to do? Well, we had to go on a walk to our local park, of course! 🏞️

We paired up and set off, eyes peeled for everything around us. As we explored, we spotted lots of human features, such as buildings, post boxes, basketball hoops, and so much more. We also noticed the physical features that make the park so lovely-lush grass, tall trees, and colourful flowers.

Next, we observed how people could use the park. Even though we were the only ones there (lucky us!), we took turns trying out different things like the swings, slides, and trampoline-and yes, all the staff joined in too! 😄

We were incredibly lucky with the weather, which made our park adventure even better. By the end of our visit, we had collected lots of data and observations to answer our geographical questions and understand how our park supports the local community.

It was an afternoon full of learning, laughter, and exploring. A park visit we won’t forget anytime soon!
