Goodbye Mrs. Murray...We Will Miss You!

We simply couldn’t wait until the end of the week to celebrate the marvellous Mrs Murray!

After bringing the children into assembly ready for ‘Matt’s Singing Assembly’, Mrs Murray soon realised that something wasn’t quite right. There wasn’t going to be much singing at all. In fact, the whole assembly was about her!

After an incredible 15 years at Southill, the time has come for Mrs Murray to swap school life for a very different kind of adventure. As much as we would happily keep her here for another 15 years, her dream of working for the fire service has come true and we couldn’t be more delighted for her.

Of course, we couldn’t possibly let her leave without looking back at everything she has brought to Southill. So, we decided to perform ‘A Day in the Life of Mrs Murray’, starring none other than... Mrs Murray herself!

Her day began as any normal day would. Superhero cape safely packed in her bag, Mrs Murray arrived at school ready for whatever was planned. There was just one small problem... all the plans had changed!

Instead, she found herself flying around the school, teaching children from all year groups and tackling absolutely everything we threw at her. There was a gymnastics routine, a wonderful story map, a clarinet performance of ‘Lord of the Dance’ and even a particularly ‘realistic’ drawing of a cat. We’re sure the art galleries will be calling any day now.

Whatever the challenge, Mrs Murray threw herself into it with the enthusiasm, energy and brilliant can-do attitude that we have all come to know and love. And really, that was the whole point. For 15 years, Mrs Murray has been someone who gets stuck in, helps wherever she is needed and somehow manages to bring a smile with her wherever she goes.

As the assembly drew towards its end, the laughter was joined by a few tears. Suddenly, it started to feel very real that we only have three more days with Mrs Murray at Southill.

But there was still time for one final challenge...

Someone spotted a cat stuck at the top of the gymnastics equipment!

Thankfully, Mrs Murray was fully prepared. She quickly got into her fire safety equipment and made her way up to perform her very first Southill rescue mission. We’re pleased to report that the cat was saved and Mrs Murray passed the test with flying colours!

We still have more planned for Mrs Murray before the week is over, but this was our chance to give her an extra special assembly and show just how much she means to everyone at Southill.

Mrs Murray, thank you for 15 wonderful years of hard work, laughter, kindness, energy and infectious positivity. Thank you for always being willing to have a go, for caring so much about our children and for being the sort of person who makes a school a happier place simply by being in it.

The fire service is gaining someone very special, but we are certainly going to miss our Southill superhero.
