Headteacher's Blog – Week Ending 17 July 2026
Annual Reports Now Available
I hope this finds you well. By now, you should have received your child's annual report via email, ready to download. These reports provide a comprehensive overview of your child's progress, achievements and next steps across the curriculum. Please do take the time to read through the report with your child and celebrate their successes this year. If you haven't received your report or are experiencing any difficulties downloading it, please contact the school office and we'll be happy to help.
Celebrating Our 2%ers
We had a wonderful celebration assembly today recognising our 2%ers – those children who consistently go above and beyond, doing everything a bit better than they have to. It was fantastic to see so many pupils celebrated for their extra effort, kindness, and dedication to their learning. These children truly embody our school motto and set a brilliant example for others to follow.

Volunteer Appreciation Tea Party
This week we held a special afternoon tea to celebrate all of the wonderful volunteers who give their time so generously to support our school. Whether it's our reading volunteers who come in weekly to share the joy of books with our children, our dedicated Governors who provide invaluable guidance and support, or our fantastic FOSS team who work tirelessly to raise funds and create memorable events for our pupils – we are incredibly grateful for everything you do. Our School Parliament did a brilliant job serving at the event, and it was lovely to bring everyone together to say a heartfelt thank you. Our school community is so much richer because of your commitment and dedication.

A Week of Wonderful Learning
What an absolutely brilliant week it's been at Southill Primary! As we approach the end of another fantastic academic year, there have been some incredible experiences across the school. Year 5 have just returned from an unforgettable residential trip to St Briavels Castle, packed with archery, fencing and outdoor challenges, while Year 6 had a fantastic two days at Primary College – a brilliant opportunity to try something new before secondary school. Across the curriculum, Year 4 have been exploring sound in Science, many year groups have been trialling the immersive 'Now Press Play' audio experience to bring learning to life and Year 1 1 had their 'Purr-Fect Afternoon' – an experience that brought joy to children and staff alike!

Our School Motto in Action
As always, we're living by our motto: "Doing everything a bit better than you have to." This week has been a perfect example of that philosophy in action – from our adventurous Year 5s pushing themselves at the castle, to our younger years engaging with innovative learning technology, every child has gone that extra mile.
As we head into the final days of this academic year, I'm incredibly proud of everything our pupils and staff have achieved. The energy, enthusiasm and dedication across our school community continues to inspire me every single day.
Have an amazing weekend!
Best wishes,
Matt
